Krafton has released a new roadmap for PUBG: Battlegrounds to share its development plans and introduce some exciting features that are currently underway. The 2023 roadmap includes changes to normal and ranked modes, map rotation, gunplay, and a brand-new map, codenamed Neon. Other updates include new progressive skins, changes to UX/UI, and an improved report system.

Starting with the ranked play updates, the development team will bring forth changes in order to sustain the live service and break the ranked mode free from the stagnant gameplay. All existing 8km maps will be applied to the ranked mode, with new maps to release after stabilization. Players will also be able to find items and features that were only available in normal matches, such as folded shield, emergency pickup, and blue zone grenade. In addition, the rewards for the ranked mode will be enhanced, offering more incentive for players to take on new challenges every season.

As for normal matches, Krafton's focus will be on this mode for the rest of 2023. The development team aims to reduce stress and increase enjoyment by providing a variety of content. The item spawn rates will be boosted to adjust the overall balance of the Blue Zone. Most notably, a brand-new revive system will be introduced "to alleviate the frustration and burden of dying after a long farming time," Krafton said in the official blog post.

Elsewhere, a tactical gear overhaul is also planned, while Miramar, Taego, Vikendi, and some of the smaller-sized maps such as Karakin and Paramo will be included in the eight-map rotation. However, only four maps will rotate every month for the ranked mode rather than applying all the maps at once. Speaking of maps, Krafton has revealed a new map codenamed Neon, which combines both modern and traditional elements. It will feature a number POIs ranging from skyscrapers to rural areas that "create a truly unique atmosphere that hasn’t been yet seen in PUBG."

Lastly, the development team will conduct R&D for underbarrel attachments, adding a new mechanism with the hopes of making gameplay more interesting. The gunplay will allow players to make more strategic choices with weapons they've not used often.
