Rapper Random Releases Mega Ran 10, Has To Find Another Series To Rap Over

on November 12, 2011 11:00 AM

Random, an indie rapper with a propensity to rap over classic videogame tunes, released his final installment in his Mega Ran album series: Mega Ran 10, with him rapping over beats from Mega Man 10. It’s not his best album; it feels fairly disjointed, in both terms of instrumentation and lyrical content, but it’s much better than Black Materia, at the very least.

There are some pretty hot tracks here and there (“Commando” shines especially), but it’s fairly weak overall; if you’re a fan of Ran’s stuff, you’ll still glean enjoyment out of it, but this album, like the Mega Man series itself, feels fairly meaningless and on-the-way-out.

The album does end, however, with “Mega Man Forever”, a final lament on the status of the classic videogame franchise and Ran’s memories with it. It’s not the best track on the album, but it’s an excellent coda for the series.
