The creator of the globally successful Metal Gear franchise needs little introduction in the gaming world. In a recent update it was confirmed that Mr.Kojima is working on a new game. A single detail of the game was revealed in a recent interview with CEO of 5pb Games, Chiyomaru Shikura. As you know (or don’t know) 5pb is the publisher of many Japanese titles such as Steins;Gate and Chaos;Head. After saying that he and Kojima are indeed working on a project, he went on to confirm that it would be an adventure title:
“Kojima said that he wanted to make an adventure game. We’re still at the level of ‘let’s lock ourselves away in the mountains somewhere and work on the plot,’ so the specifics haven’t been finalized.”
Without doubt, fans of MGS are speculating about how the game will vary from Mr.Kojima’s past work. While he himself has not commented on the state or nature of the game, there is that statement he made several weeks ago:
“The next project will challenge a certain type of taboo. If I mess up, I’ll probably have to leave the industry. However, I don’t want to pass by avoiding that. I turn 47 this year. It’s been 24 years since I started making games. Today, I got an ally who would happily support me in that risk. Although it’s just one person, for a start, it’s good.”
The interesting thing is that it makes sense that this “ally” could be Mr.Shikura, as he himself said he intended to give his “full effort” to the game. I for one could not be more excited about this mysterious new title. I suppose Metal Gear Solid Rising, which comes out in September, will just have to quell that Kojima craving until we learn more about it.
