Today Rockstar Games teased something “red” by changing its site’s front page and social media headers to a simple logo on a solid red field. This sparked obvious speculation on an impending reveal of the next Red Dead game, and apparently the fans are going nuts.
Now that exactly five hours have passed, we can gauge the impact of this simple tease on social media, and it’s quite significant.
On Twitter, the initial tweet received 99,000 likes and 65,000 retweets.
On Instagram, we are at over 99,000 likes and 5,805 comments.
On Facebook, the count is at over 41,000 likes, 3,300 comments and 3,300 shares.
This means that the tally of “likes” for the announcement over the three main social media channels is at almost 240,000 in five hours, on a Sunday morning.
This is certainly a significant engagement, that has very few precedents in the gaming industry, and shows just how much the fans of the developer known mostly for the Grand Theft Auto franchise want a new Red Dead.
Of course we’ll have to see if this is really for a new Red Dead game, but to tease something like this on a Sunday morning, getting this kind of response, it’s probably something very few developers can achieve.
