Rumor: First Look at Playdead’s Follow-Up to Limbo Released

A posting on the Danish Film Institute’s website has revealed what appears to be the first teaser image of Playdead’s follow-up to Limbo which is being called “Project 2” at this time. From the little information we have here it appears the game will be a 2D platformer in a 3D world and will feature some similar puzzle mechanics to what we saw in Limbo. If you’re asking why this information is being hosted on the DFI’s website it appears the institute is funding the game at least partially.

Translated from Danish the text on the site reads: Playdeads second major project after the success of the game LIMBO.Through unique puzzles and changing scenarios narrated the story of one boy’s struggle against evil forces through questionable experiments on human bodies, trying to take over the world. The game is in color and set in a 3D environment, while the gameplay takes place as a 2D platformer.

It looks like this isn’t an actual sequel so much as simply a follow-up game and perhaps spiritual successor, but either way I’m definitely interested in seeing how this progresses. Limbo seems to be a love it or hate it game but even the strongest detractors will openly admit that the game had some interesting ideas, it’ll be nice to see the team get a chance to expand on those.
