Rumor: New Star Ocean Title In Development

Scrawl is reporting that within the French gaming magazine AMUSEMENT one of the tri-Ace directors is interviewed and spills a bit of info that Star Ocean fans have been hoping for.  The question was about tri-Ace’s relationship with Square-Enix, which has published many of their previous titles, such as the Star Ocean series.  You may recall that tri-Ace’s latest game, Resonance of Fate, departed from that formula when they teamed up with Sega as the game’s publisher.

Yakayushi Suguro, the one interviewed, had this to say about tri-Ace’s relationship with the RPG giant:

“It’s not like Square Enix has lost tri-Ace forever.  They’ll have the new Star Ocean after Resonance of Fate is out.”

What does that sound like to you?  It sure sounds like a confirmation that there is a new Star Ocean game in the works at tri-Ace, and that it will indeed once more be published by Square-Enix.  I couldn’t be happier about this possibility, but please for the love of all that is good in this world get better English voice actors or just don’t localize the voice acting at all.  Also, I’ll have none of this replacing the anime art with all those crappy CG models in the dialog portraits and menus.

Another question that arises is whether or not Microsoft will slip their grubby hands into the mix once more and buy timed exclusivity like they did with Star Ocean: The Last Hope.  At least this time around I have both consoles and don’t feel the need to go out and buy one just for the next Star Ocean.
