The rumor mill seems to be cranking this month, so keep your salt handy. Another “Xbox 720” rumor has hit the Internet in the wake of a reveal of what seems to be the next console’s GPU.
Sources at IGN claim that mass production of the system’s GPU will begin by the end of the year, and will be similar to AMD’s Radeon HD 6670 processor — which offers support for DirectX11 (an application programming interface), multidisplay output, 3D and 1080p HD output, and will supposedly outperform the Wii U by 20%. This puts the new console at six time the power of the Xbox 360.
Dev kits featuring the 6670 will arrive at studios in August. The chip itself goes on the market for upwards of $79.99.
