This is a RUMOR. Don't get all in a tither just yet.

The Silent Chief reported yesterday that the latest issue of magazine GamesMaster UK claims Square Enix has a special surprise planned for the 25th anniversary of Final Fantasy at E3 2012 -- that would be Final Fantasy XV, which has been on nobody's mind since the rebirth of XIV, the missing child syndrome plaguing Versus XIII, and the recent release of Final Fantasy XIII-2.

I hope you have a salt shaker handy, because to further grind the rumor mill the magazine claims that the next main sequence installment of the franchise will be published for not only the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, but for PC as well as Nintendo's upcoming Wii U console. While Nintendo platforms have seen plenty of Final Fantasy action in the form of Crystal Chronicles and Chocobo Dungeon, they have never run a numbered title.

And as if that wasn't enough to add fuel to the fire, take a look at the following image:

The image, drawn by series favorite Akihiko Yoshida, was taken from the home screen of the Square Enix homepage for More SQ, an album featuring new arrangements and remixes of music from the company's games. Notice what's in her hands: a console that looks suspicious like a Wii U tablet. There is no other handheld currently on the market with the same distinct shape and color. Coincidence?

Furthermore, shortly after Nintendo unveiled the console at E3 2011, series producer Yoshinori Kitase dropped this bomb: "...After seeing Wii U revealed at Nintendo’s conference, we are now considering the possibilities of bringing the Final Fantasy series to the format.”

I should note that I went hunting for this mysterious GamesMaster UK source, and was unable to find it on the net. If someone with a copy of the magazine finds it, please speak up. Fans and haters alike can only speculate, and June is a very long way away.
