Osamu Mieda, the producer for Samurai Warriors: Spirit of Sanada, recently wrote a blog post on the PlayStation Website describing why the developers chose to focus the latest entry in the long-running Samurai Warriors franchise would focus on one specific clan.

Mieda-San gives two main reasons why this clan took their interest. The first reason was that the Sanada-Clan was “unique resilience and constant effort to overcome difficulties”. He went on to describe how, while other Samurais of the time would commit suicide upon defeat, the Sanadas lived under the motto “Survive until life is no more”, a beleife that was held by all clan members. This notion would carry over in their banners which featured six gold coins, the cost of ferrying a dead soul to the afterlife.

The second reason is that it allowed the developers to focus on the character of Yukimura Sanada, also known as the “Crimson Demon of War”, and who is considered one of the strongest warriors in Japan’s history. Mieda-San hopes that the players will connect with Yukimura by experiencing his story and power with him. Additionally, players will finally be able to play as the long-requested Mayasuki Sanada, Yukimura’s father. Mayasuki’s role in the game will be to show the players just how the Sanada-Clan rose in power.

Mieda-San closed the blog post showing some costumes that will be available to those who pre-ordered the game.

Samurai Warriors: Spirit of Sanada releases on the 26th of May 2017 for PlayStation 4 and PC.
