Satoru Iwata Won’t Be Attending E3 This Year Due to Ongoing Health Problems

on June 5, 2014 5:35 PM

Satoru Iwata, President of Nintendo, will be skipping out on E3 this year on his physician’s advice, due to health problems.

According to Nintendo Vice President of Corporate Affairs Cindy Gordon:

He’s been instructed by his physician not to travel overseas in the immediate future, and so he will not be making the trip to Los Angeles. Please understand that it is business as usual for Mr. Iwata, and he continues his normal duties as president of Nintendo Co., Ltd. while he remains in Japan. As always, he will be actively involved in all of Nintendo’s activities at the show.

Nintendo’s plan for E3 2014 — including a digital event on June 10th, multiple livestreams from the Nintendo Treehouse and a Super Smash Bros. Wii U tournament — will continue as scheduled.
