The previously announced screenshot feature for the Xbox One is still in the works, but won't be released this year, Xbox Head Phil Spencer has said.

Spencer admits that to those waiting, it might seem unusual that the console can stream video, but can't share screenshots. However, he says that the team is working on a solution that doesn't just involve grabbing a freeze frame.

It’s a little more technically challenging than I thought. Two weeks ago, they think they’ve found a good solution for screenshots. They’re working on it. They know people want it. The team has a path to getting it done, and now it’s just prioritizing.

Spencer also said that console updates are beginning to wind down for the year, as the company relaxes post holiday season.

"In December, it’s probably a time for us to pause for a little bit and settle just as all the new consoles are coming online."

Following the holiday break, Microsoft will begin to roll out its updates once again, Spencer said.

As we come back into the new year, we’ll see new stuff, and screenshots is on the list.
