SDCC 11: New Darkstalkers Game Teased by Capcom

on July 22, 2011 9:15 PM

Fighting games have made a significant comeback in the last two years, with series both old and new bringing more attention to the genre than it has gotten in a very long time. Capcom is capitalizing on this perhaps more so than any other developer. In a very short amount of time, they’ve successfully reinvented both the Street Fighter and Marvel vs. Capcom series (in addition to the forthcoming Street Fighter X Tekken).

The next fighting series up for a comeback could be one of the oldest and most celebrated of all. The last completely original Darkstalkers game was 1997’s Vampire Savior (Darkstalkers 3 here in the US). Since then, in spite of numerous re-releases and upgrades, hardcore fighting fans have been waiting for a new entry in the DS series, which is best known for its unique and detailed character sprites and lightning fast game play.

The image above was captured at the Street Fighter X Tekken panel at the San Diego Comic-Con. While Capcom has since expressed that this is not official confirmation (and should not be treated as such) and is only a teaser for a supposed forthcoming announcement, the text on the image speaks for itself. There’s a new Darkstalkers game coming and here’s hoping it will be fantastic.
