The original Nintendo Gameboy was released in 1989. I got mine in 1990 when I was ten years old. It became something that was always with me. It didn’t have color like my Nintendo Entertainment System but that didn’t matter. As a kid, this was one of the greatest things I’ve ever played on.
That was back during a time when the Gameboy was cutting edge technology of course. It’s 2014 and the world is a very different place when it comes to tech. We have smart phones and tablets now (not to mention the PlayStation Vita and 3DS handhelds) which have made portable gaming pretty ubiquitous. Given all of these devices, how would modern kids react to an old-school game boy?
This video shows us exactly what kids think of the classic Nintendo handheld system and the results are pretty funny. I should also note how OLD this video makes me feel. Like I said, back when I had a Gameboy it was a marvel of technology. To most of these kids however, it’s a big clunky piece of plastic. I guess we can forgive this sentiment given the sort of devices they’re growing up with. However, some of the kids still think it’s cool and a few of the older kids realize how important and significant the Gameboy is.
“It can’t even sense your fingers, you have to use buttons.” If that doesn’t make you feel old then I don’t know what will.
