The update for the 5th anniversary is set to release sometime this spring, and will conclude Episode 4 of the story as well as add a new Battle Arena. Sega is also planning to celebrate Phantasy Star Online 2's milestone on PS4 by bringing new campaigns, but no details about what that entails have been released as yet.

Phantasy Star Online 2 first released on the 4th of July, 2012 on PC, and was followed by a PS Vita release on the 28th of February 2013. The game then made its way to the PS4 on the 20th of April 2016. Phantasy Star Online 2's popularity has also led to crossovers with other games such as Persona 5, Gravity Rush 2Final Fantasy XIV and most recently NieR: Automata.

The game is currently only available in Japan and Asia where it has over 4.5 million registered users, Sega did announce a Western release, but it has since been delayed until further notice.
