Sensationalist Russian Media Links Bombing to Call of DutyEarlier this week saw a terrorist bombing in a Russian airport which left 35 dead and 10 more wounded.Instantly I saw my twitter and facebook feeds showing links to it saying “No Russian?”, referring of course to the controversial mission from Modern Warfare 2 which saw the player joining a group of extremists who mow down civilians in a Russian airport. The coincidence was quite astounding and certainly makes the level a lot harsher in hindsight, but that’s how these things go.

Well it would appear that the Russian Media can be just as attention grabbing and idiotic as our own American news can be at times. “Russian Times”, a government funded satellite news station are seriously trying to link the two together, claiming that the game may have served as a “training simulator” for the attacks.

Nevermind that in the level itself, the player is wielding a machine gun and not a bomb. Let’s overlook that the group that people think are responsible is Russian, and that Russian versions of the game have the level removed in it’s entirety. This is just poor reporting and trying to grab sensationalist headlines that is a mockery to the families of those injured and killed.
