WayForward and XSEED Games announced Update 1.01 for Shantae: Half-Genie Hero today, which will be released on March 6.

Alongside bug fixes, this update adds PlayStation TV Support to the PlayStation Vita version of the title, and a brand new Hard Core difficulty mode. The developers gave a list of what players should expect from the brand new Hard Core Mode:

  • Pain and suffering!
  • Harder-hitting enemies!
  • Faster enemy patterns!
  • Faster scroll speeds!
  • Remixed enemy locations, and more of ‘em!
  • New boss patterns, attacks, and stats!
  • Healing items capped at six!
  • Re-balanced magic items!

Matt Bozon, Creative Director at WayForward, had the following to say about Update 1.01:

"Thank you for your ongoing support, and for waiting patiently while we continue production of Shantae: Half-Genie Hero. And also thanks to everyone on Twitch, YouTube, and other social media for helping us make the game even better with this update. We hope you’ll enjoy Hard Core Mode while you wait for the bigger DLC packs to arrive. Remember, no throwing controllers, and please keep your hair-whipping in the game where it belongs!”

DualShockers gave the game a 7.5 in our review, saying "While I enjoyed my time with Shantae: Half-Genie Hero, I was left a bit wanting in regards to gameplay." Shantae: Half-Genie Hero is currently available on PC, PS4, PS Vita, and Wii U, and Xbox One.
