2013 was largely known as the Year of Luigi in the Nintendo community, with releases such as Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon, New Super Luigi U, Mario & Luigi: Dream Team, Dr. Luigi, and Luigi Bros. in Super Mario 3D World and Super Luigi Bros. in NES Remix Vol. 2.
Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto announced today that the Year of Luigi will officially come to a close on March 18th of this year. “Almost a year has passed since I announced the Year of Luigi, marking the 30th anniversary of Luigi’s debut,” Mr. Miyamoto wrote in a Miiverse post, “thanks to everyone’s kind support, we were able to release many Luigi games over the course of the year. I hope everyone continues to cheer for the green brother!”
As of this announcement, the Year of Luigi Developer and Community boards have officially closed.
