Shovel Knight Retail Version Gets a Delay and Price Raise, Cancelled on Xbox One

Developer Yacht Club Games has broken a fair bit of bad news regarding the physical retail release of their popular game Shovel Knight. The latest expansion Plague of Shadows just recently launched digitally and took longer than expected to finish, so putting the content on-disc will also take a bit longer than expected. The physical release date has only been pushed back to November 3 from the original October 3 date.

While that news is not too significant, the additional updates start to bring more bad news. First, in order to ensure display space at certain retailers, the physical version of Shovel Knight’s price has been raised to $24.99. It is worth noting that all copies now come with a digital soundtrack, however.

The most disappointing news from Yacht Club Games’ post is that the Xbox One retail version has been outright cancelled.

We really gave it our best effort, but unfortunately, because of publishing policies on that platform that are totally beyond our control, we couldn’t make it happen. We’re very sorry…we know there is a lot of interest – the pre-orders were really good and we thank everyone for their support!

We’ll keep fighting to get a retail version on Xbox One, but as of now, the boxed version is in indefinite  limbo. The digital version of Shovel Knight on Xbox One is already available and will, of course, continue to receive new updates and our full support!
