Sick of the Same Old Canabalt Clones? Try Edmus

I love me some Canabalt-esque games, but I won’t deny that they can get stale after a while. Even Robot Unicorn Attack loses its luster after the millionth play. Enter Edmus. This Flash game is pretty much your standard always-running platformer, with one exception: it’s an MMO. See, when you play Edmus, you’ll see a whole bunch of other Edmii running side by side with you; those are ghosts of actual players and their high scores. Every race feels that much more substantial thanks to the fact that you can actually see where your rivals died or did things better than you.

On top of that, you can also collect flower petals, which can be used as currency to buy upgrades for your Edmus. Every day the race changes as well, so you don’t have to race the exact same track every time you play. I have to say, this is addicting as all get-out; I opened the game to get a screen cap for the header, and instead found myself dicking away thirty minutes trying to get enough petals to upgrade my buddy’s double jump.

His focus is on indie games specifically, valuing gameplay and ingenuity over sparkly visuals and ridiculous gimmicks. When he's not geeking out over the newest art game, he's out toning his sexy, sculpted shoulders while surfing epic 1.5ft waves, or having a good time with local, high-gravity microbrews.
