Bravely Default developer Silicon Studio is on the move to the next generation, and it's doing so with a brand new next-gen rendering engine and with the second iteration of its YEBIS optical effects middleware.

The studio released two trailers, showcasing both the engine and the middleware, and they look very impressive. You can check them out at the bottom of the post, together with a few screenshots from the engine tech demo.

According to the developer, the new engine is capable of "real-time CG technology at the world's highest level," and looking at the tech demo, it surely looks like they're not just bragging.

The YEBIS 2 middleware includes a variegated customizable glare effect, depth of field effects, motion blur, physically accurate optical post-effects, three different HDR rendering effects, post-processing anti-aliasing, artistic special effects, a color adjust feature and a Proprietary Processing Algorithm Balancing Quality and Performance.

The first version of the middleware has been used, between others, in Square Enix's Agni's Philosophy demo and in Final Fantasy XV's E3 demo.
