NFC has hit a fever pitch through titles like Disney Infinity and Nintendo's upcoming "Amiibo" line of figurines, but to give credit where credit is due, Skylanders started it all off and Activision is honoring the series with a revival of its classic character this fall.

Activision announced that new versions of characters from the original title, Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure, will be released as part of the "Eon's Elite" premium figurine line. The eight included characters will be produced as limited edition available in small quantities, and will launch with Spyro and Chop Chop - each of the characters will be rereleased with a new high-end metallic finish, a gold base stand, and a new display case with unique backgrounds and artwork.

The Eon's Elite line of figurines will be close to three times as powerful compared to previously-released Skylanders figurines, and will be given much higher stat boosts compared to their original incarnation in the first Skylanders title.

The new Eon's Elite figurines will arrive this fall, though no pricing details have been announced yet for the rereleased figurines.

Skylanders: Trap Team releases for PS4, Xbox One, PS3, Xbox 360, Wii U, Wii, and 3DS on October 5th, 2014. In the meantime, you can check out a photo of the first two Eon's Elite figurines below, with Spyro and Chop Chop:
