Firmware 4.30 is now live for all PlayStation users, but much like the PlayStation Store that had some bugs to iron out, Sony has used it’s European fans as a bit of a guinea pig. While this may only enrage the most OCD of gamers, several have now taken to the internet and the PlayStation Blog to voice their frustration that the SingStar icon cannot be moved or removed on the XMB desktop. This is in addition to more changes and moves of other features as well, most notably the trophies. PlayStation Europe Blog Manager Fred Dutton finally chimed in on Page 17 of the comments to assure fans that it’s being looked into.
I’m afraid I’ve got nothing to add at present other than that all your feedback has most certainly been noticed and is being carefully considered by the relevant teams. If I have news about future updates, I will of course let you know immediately.
Its easy to understand that Sony wants to hype a new product, but let’s hope forcing what is essentially an add onto our desktops is something game developers don’t get around to until they’ve finished the mind control chips as well. Sony will likely end up unlocking the icon or moving it themselves to the Music section. The icon also does not appear there for people outside of Europe, whether or not this is tied to the PlayStation store delays I’m not sure. Hopefully by the time it spreads Sony will have fixed things, because I know it would irritate the hell out of me.
