Sony Predicts to Sell 16 Million PS4 Consoles in FY 2015, But Games’ Income Will Slightly Decrease

In addition to its financial results for fiscal year 2014, Sony Corporation also provided an extensive forecast for fiscal year 2015.

The company as a whole boldly predicts to bring home a positive net income of 140 billion yen with the Game and Network Services division predicted to end the fiscal year with a total revenue of 1,370 billion yen and an operating income of 40 billion yen.

This means that both figures are slightly lower than the results for fiscal year 2014, that were 1,388 billion yen of revenue and 48.1 billion of operating income.

That said, Sony predicts to sell a whopping 16 million PS4 units, 1.2 million more than the total sales achieved in fiscal year 2014.

The reason of the decrease in income and revenue despite the increase in PS4 sales is pretty simple, explained in the full release. Sony expects a considerable decline in PS3 unit sales, even if the higher PS4 sales will partly offset the decrease.

Sales are expected to remain essentially flat year-on-year. Operating income is expected to decrease year-on-year primarily due to the impact of a decrease in PS3 platform sales and the negative impact of foreign exchange rates, partially offset by the impact of an increase in PS4 platform sales.

Below you can see the relevant slides of the presentation, showing the predicted results for fiscal year 2015.
