Square Enix Could Bring Taito’s Arcade Classics to PS4

on June 25, 2014 4:01 PM

During the investors meeting held today in Tokyo, Square Enix President Yosuke Matsuda was asked is the company is planning to port its arcade classics to PS4, using Darius and The Ninja Warriors as examples.

Matsuda answered that classic arcade games are “fantastic” and there’s indeed an interest in porting them over. In the past the Darius franchise landed on PSP (with the title Dariusburst), and the company is going to actively pursue this possibility in the future.

In Japan the PS4 is receiving numerous arcade classics ports, but unfortunately no announcement has been made for a western release of that kind of content yet.

Square Enix has an extremely large catalog of arcade games in its portfolio, thanks to the acquisition of Taito in 2005. In their archives there’s definitely¬†a lot of¬†potential for bolstering the PS4’s classic games portfolio considerably.
