Let the postulation begin! Square Enix recently re-registered the Star Ocean trademark. It's a necessity to re-register after so long, however it should be noted that they don't necessarily have to be used. In Square Enix's case, however, they seem to tend to reveal games based on registered or re-registered trademarks shortly after doing so.

Will we see a next generation Star Ocean game? Let's hope so. And please, for the love of all that is good and holy in the world, keep it on consoles and not mobile or handheld devices. Also of special note, given the company's penchant on re-releasing older games with a fresh coat of paint recently, Star Ocean 3: Till the End of Time is the only game in the series that has not received said fresh coat of paint. (The first two titles were re-released on the PlayStation Portable and Star Ocean 4: The Last Hope was re-released on the PS3 after hitting the Xbox 360 first, with a little extra content and a different visual style.) So...if a re-release of SO3 is the way they're going, I would not be opposed to that, either. It's a great, great game.

Along with the Star Ocean trademark, they also registered the trademark for Occult Maiden, if you're interested in that nifty conflux of words.
