Mario isn't the only one celebrating 25 years of awesomeness recently. The Dragon Quest franchise has been around for just as long, and SquareEnix is certainly going to be celebrating that fact. Jump magazine has information on SquareEnix's plans to re-release the first three Dragon Quest titles in various forms on one Wii disc this September (in Japan), much like the Super Mario 25th Anniversary Edition re-release from Nintendo. Hit the break for more info on this bundle.

This special bundle will include the following versions of the first three Dragon Quest games:

  • Dragon Quest (Famicom)
  • Dragon Quest 2 (Famicom)
  • Dragon Quest 3 (Famicom)
  • Dragon Quest 1&2 (Super Famicom)
  • Dragon Quest 3 (Super Famicom)

The Dragon Quest franchise is one near and dear to my heart, personally. The first title to come over to America, retitled Dragon Warrior here, was the very first JRPG I played, way back on the NES that my parents bought my brothers and I. So, I often credit that title with getting me into the genre. It's pretty cool to see it getting this special treatment all these years later. I might just have to pick up the bundle (if it makes it across the Pacific) for nostalgia alone.
