Star Citizen has certainly grown a lot in scope and budget since the original crowdfunding campaign in 2012. Today, the game passed two rather relevant milestones at the same time.

First of all, we learn that the number of registered users has passed two million, while the total amount of money pledged by the game's fans is now over 181 million dollars. To be more precise, it's sitting at 181,041,767 at the moment of this writing.

This means that the average pledge among all registered user is just north of $90.

It's worth mentioning that developer Cloud Imperium Games allows players to pledge varying amount to receive starships in the game from the start, but all of those ships will be available for everyone to purchase using credits earned in-game.

At the moment parts of Star Citizen's persistent universe are already playable for backers as part of alpha 3.0 version, that will receive the 3.1 update in a few days.
