I still remember just over three years ago, when many did not believe that Star Citizen would even manage to achieve its first crowdfunding goal. Now, the day after the release of the first glimpse on the game's persistent universe with the Alpha 2.0, it celebrates another milestone.

Star Citizen has officially overtaken a hundred million dollars in crowdfunding, and at the moment of this writing is comfortably sitting on $100,047,897, provided by 1,087,523 backers.

The game has attracted controversy due to its ambitious goals, but what we saw so far of 2.0 is absolutely impressive, and should serve as an example that certain reports based on what seemed pure hearsay were most probably just your usual case of yellow journalism. I heard people saying that those rumors would spell the end for the game, but apparently (and thankfully), nothing stops this train.

It's hard to predict just how high the crowdfunding total will go, but it definitely keeps breaking records. In order to celebrate, you can go check out my first, overjoyed post published when Chris Roberts announced Star Citizen for the first time.

Full disclosure: the author of this article is also a backer of Star Citizen, and he's absolutely proud of it. Welcome back, Wing Commander.
