Today’s Nintendo Direct kicked off strong with new gameplay footage and information on Star Fox Zero, which will be launching on April 22nd.

The title is based on the classic N64 version of Star Fox, but with some key differences. First the story map and layout is completely different, with the chance for players to discover and conquer new routes within a level. This unlocks new levels for players to play through.

There’s also a bonus challenging new level called Fortuna and the Star Fox amiibo will unlock the original Landmaster from the N64 title.

Finally, Project Guard (shown about two years ago) has been officially renamed Star Fox Guard. Essentially, Slippy’s father Grippy is gathering rare materials in space but is being attacked by enemies, which is where the tower defense gameplay comes in. Players can also create their own stages and share them online.
