Star Wars: Tiny Death Star Charms With 8-Bit Humor and Evil Schemes

on November 7, 2013 2:17 AM

Much of geekdom love the Star Wars franchise as it is (a few movies and characters debatable), but leave it to Disney to make it genuinely cute and comedic. Disney Mobile and LucasArts are introducing Star Wars: Tiny Death Star a mobile game that tasks you with building a Death Star that you must maintain and upgrade to keep your empire in check.

This “Episode VIII-Bit” game seems to be full of humor and charm, while asking players to aid Emperor Palpatine and Darth Vader with rebuilding the Death Star level by level. To fund this venture, the two will need to earn money and capture rebel spies, hire one of 30 unique species for various “dream jobs,” create over 80 types of Star Wars-themed residential and commercial floors, craft special supplies, and unlock and enjoy entertaining story moments involving fan favorites like Han Solo, Chewie, Jabba the Hutt, and more.

Born and raised in video games and "geek culture," Masoud has been bred off of fantasy worlds his entire life and doesn't see anything wrong with that. He loves RPGs (especially TRPGs), sandbox games, the sci-fi genre, dieselpunk, art deco, and anything that allows him to create. Having graduated from John Jay College with a degree in English and a minor in Creative Writing, Masoud hopes to one day pen the same novels, comics, movies, and video games he enjoys escaping into when the real world gets too boring.
