It has been a known fact since the game’s inception that the Gorn would play a major role as the primary antagonists. In Star Trek‘s newest, “Making the Game” video, new light has been shed on the involvement of not only the Gorn, but of the Vulcans and Starfleet as well.
Star Trek takes place between the film of the same name that was released in 2009 and its sequel, Star Trek into Darkness, due out in May of this year. Following the destruction of the planet Vulcan in 2009’s film, Vulcans have been looking for a new suitable home for what is left of their race. A malfunction of their
Genesis ‘Helios Device,’ which they are using to terraform their new planet, leads to a rip in space and draws the attention of the Gorn. The Gorn not only steal the device, but the scientist who knows it in and out, Tamar. It is up to Kirk, Spock, and the crew of the Enterprise to get the device back and save the Federation from annihilation.
The story – which is being considered canon in the Abramsverse – was written by Marianne Krawczyk, a long-time collaborator on the God of War series, along with the film’s screenplay writers Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, and Damon Lindelof.
Star Trek has been developed by Digital Extremes and will be published by Namco Bandai for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC starting tomorrow in the United States, and on the 26th in Europe.
