Strategy Boner Alert: Frozen Synapse Set to Come Out This Thursday

I came across indie dev Mode 7’s Frozen Synapse a little over a month ago, but never bothered to delve too much into it for whatever reason, despite the appealing visuals and rousing praise from various outlets. I don’t really do strategy multiplayer games, so I didn’t bother to learn much beyond that.

What a tragic mistake. Hit the jump for a gameplay trailer and find out why we might have yet another potential indie game of the year contender on our hands.

If you’re still confused, the gist of Frozen Synapse is that it’s an asynchronous turn-based combat strategy shooter. What that means is, both sides input their moves for one turn at the same time, and once they’ve both been submitted, the outcome of the turn plays out.

It looks incredibly addicting and compelling, like a cross between chess and Counterstrike. Indeed, I’ve heard of some peoples’ games lasting weeks at a time, and additionally, it’s possible to play more than one game at once.

This really looks like one to get, so pre-order now for $25.99. If you really need an extra incentive, you also receive an additional copy to gift to a friend/potential enemy. I’ll be most certainly snagging a copy of this, so I hope to see you all online.

Allen is an utter whore of a gamer; he's completely open-minded to all games, be they AAA blockbusters or $5 casual children's games. His focus is on indie games specifically, valuing gameplay and ingenuity over sparkly visuals and ridiculous gimmicks. When he's not geeking out over the newest art game, he's out toning his sexy, sculpted shoulders while surfing epic 1.5ft waves, or having a good time with local, high-gravity microbrews.
