British developer Failbetter Games has announced that its literary RPG, Sunless Skies, will launch for PC, Mac, and Linux on August 30th, priced at $24.99 USD.
According to Failbetter Games, initially, as of August 30th, players will be able to explore the Reach, one of the four regions of the High Wilderness, with other regions being added in throughout development.
The following elevator pitch of The Reached is provided:
The Reach is a verdant, sunless frontier. London pioneers—spearheaded by the avaricious Windward Company—establish far-flung colonies and plunder the riches of the region’s ruins and wild gardens. But many colonists crave independence from the Empire, and the Reach is rife with conflict. Will you be one of the lucky few who strikes it rich? Or one of the masses broken amidst the green wastes?
In terms of gameplay and mechanics, players can expect a “broad skeleton” to be available. Meaning, you’ll be able to explore the skies, dock at ports, interact with stories, trade, fight, and die. Failbetter Games continues:
Opening the game to players in Early Access / Games in Development will provide us with crucial feedback and data to help us create a game that’s delicious, delightful, and dangerous.
Sunless Skies has no final release date. However, it is expected to hit sometime in 2018 on the aforementioned platforms.
For those that don’t know: Sunless Skies is the sequel to 2015’s Sunless Sea. Set 10 years after its predecessor, Sunless Skies takes place in the dawn of the 20th century where London has taken to the stars. You play as the captain of its spacefaring locomotive exploring the wonders and battling the abominations of the cosmos.
Colonizing the stars, you will travel between distant ports, unravel stories, balance resources, keep your crew happy, and make decisions that will not only impact your journey but will impact the cosmos around you and the stories of future captains.
