Today, Nintendo announced that its recently released iOS game Super Mario Run surpassed 40 million downloads in its first four days on the market, and that it was "the fastest in App Store history" to reach such a sales milestone.

Further, the company revealed that it is also the top-ranking free game on the App Store in 140 countries and regions, and is among the top ten highest grossing games on the App store in over 100 countries.

Nintendo declined to release specific numbers for how many players went on to purchase the full version of the game.

Super Mario Run is currently available on iOS, and is slated to release on Android sometime in 2017. In a couple of hours the DualShocker's review for the automatic/endless runner will go live, so be sure to check back in then to get our thoughts on Mario's mobile debut.
