Tales of Xillia 2 Announced for “Winter” by Namco Bandai

With the first Tales of Xillia being one of the franchise’s best-selling titles in Japan, it is no surprise that Namco is going the Final Fantasy X-2 route and releasing a sequel. Tales of Xillia 2 is set to come out in Japan this Winter – which really could mean anytime between December 2012 and march 2013 – and will, once again, be a PS3 exclusive title.

The game will take place one year after the events in the first game, and focus on the character of Ludgar. The same animation studio that made Tales of Xillia look so great is back this time around as well. As in the Japanese custom, the battle system is something outrageously ridiculous, and is called roughly the “Cross Double Raid Linear Motion Battle System”. Wow, that’s a mouthful.

I realize this is hard to stomach for fans of the franchise in the West who have yet to hear anything about a release date for the first game (although a trademark was filed in the U.S. and Europe), but it’s good news that Namco Bandai thinks the first title did so well in Japan to go through the trouble of developing a sequel.
