Tales of Xillia Breaks Franchise Pre-order Records

As unlikely as this is to persuade Namco Bandai to localize Tales of Xillia for Western distribution, it is quite heartening to see this franchise doing so great in Japan. Tales of Vesperia’s PS3 version held the previous high pre-order sales for the franchise, but now the latest flagship game in the series just shattered them.

While no numbers were given, Tales series producer Makoto Yoshizumi wrote on his Twitter feed today that he wanted to thank fans for helping Tales of Xillia to reach record pre-sale numbers. Tales of Vesperia garnered just under 150,000 pre-orders when it hit the PS3, so I’m going to go out on a limb and bet that Tales of Xillia brought in close to 200,000.

As I always remind everyone, this is Japanese pre-orders only (since that’s the only area it’s available in at this point), and 200,000 is a very good number. With that being said, anyone who pre-ordered the game to import into the West probably helped reach this milestone, as well.
