Team Ninja, widely known for the Ninja Gaiden and Dead or Alive series, recently told Games TM magazine that they don’t “intentionally make games for the Western market.” (Those living in North or South America…Western means you). They basically focus on creating ideas rather than joining them. Below are, Team Ninja Head, Yosuke Hayashi’s comments in full.
“A lot of Japanese developers have been focusing on developing games designed to appeal to Western audiences, but most of them have failed. It’s a situation we understand but, for Team Ninja, we never intentionally make games for the Western market. We merely try to make interesting games. However, we don’t want to be grounded as an exclusively Japanese developer.”
It’s nice for a change to see a developer going down their own path, rather than conform to what they know will sell. Also, to point out, the Ninja Gaiden series is arguably one of the best action-adventure games around. Who would want that to change? So to Team Ninja…keep doing what you’re doing!
