Following a stellar lineup in 2014 consisting of The Walking Dead: Season Two, The Wolf Among Us, Tales from the Borderlands, and Game of Thrones, Telltale Games seems to have even more up its sleeve thanks to a new announcement of the studio’s next project, which will be a collaboration with Minecraft developer Mojang.
Announced in a blog post this morning, Telltale Games revealed its next project, titled Minecraft: Story Mode, will be coming to consoles, PC, Mac, and mobile next year, and while Minecraft hasn’t been known for its focus on storytelling and rather community and creativity, Story Mode will take players through the world of Minecraft in the Telltale episodic fashion, with Mojang’s blog post explaining:
“We’ve begun to realize that there’s a massive demand for fiction set in the Minecraft universe. People love engaging the world, whether they’re building, adventuring, or role-playing an awesome Creeper slayer. The tricky bit is working out how to explore a story without diluting Minecraft itself.”
In addition, Telltale Games also added more details on the upcoming episodic title from its blog post on the game:
“Minecraft: Story Mode will be an all-new narrative-driven game series developed by Telltale in collaboration with Mojang. Set in the world of Minecraft, the series will feature an original story, driven by player choice. It will not be an add-on for Minecraft, but rather a separate stand-alone product that will premiere in 2015 on consoles, computers and mobile devices.”
Minecraft: Story Mode will debut on PlayStation consoles, Xbox consoles, PC, Mac, iOS, and Android in 2015 – stay tuned for more news and details as they develop.
