Today Hironobu Sakaguchi's studio Mistwalker Corporation announced two new brand new games, Terra Battle 2 and Terra Wars, both belonging to the newly named franchise "Terra World"

Terra Battle 2 will be a sequel of Mistwalker's popular mobile title Terra Battle, and like its predecessor it will come to iOS, Android and PC in 2017. It will be co-developed by Mistwalker and Bravely Default developer Silicon Studio, while the soundtrack will be composed by legendary Final Fantasy Maestro Nobuo Uematsu. Kimihiko Fujisaka (Drakengard series, The Last Story) will take care of the character design.

The story is teased as follows:

"Evil turns to stone and lay dormant.

The pure will light up and awaken.

But beware...

An aure too strong gives life to Good... And Evil.

To our world... TERRA

Light gives birth to darkness, and darkness gives light its form.

The place to which we must return, the place from where we must depart."

Terra Wars is a completely different game of which very little is known, besides the fact that it will feature claymation-style graphics. Platforms have not been announced, and more information has been promised coming after the launch of Terra Battle 2.

Update: Terra Wars' platforms have been announced. It will also come for iOS, Android and PC.

Apparently, this is not related to the console version of Terra Battle, which was promised when Terra Battle reached two million downloads.

Sakaguchi-san himself delivered a statement about the games and the franchise, also promising that work on the original Terra Battle will continue for the time being:

"Terra World"

This is the inception of a brand new franchise -- Terra World.

Following the success of "Terra Battle" (Terra Battle 1), I have created "Terra Battle 2" and "Terra Wars." While both share the same fundamentals as Terra Battle, they offer re-designed gameplay, and a completely new world and story.

I intend to use a similar numbering structure as my past work: the FINAL FANTASY series. Each installment of the "Terra" franchise will have its distinct feel, unique from any other.

Yes, I have become old enough that some call me a "legend," of the industry, but I wish to try and remain an active creator. Until the day I retire, I (secretly) wish to expand the "Terra World" and create 9 experiences. (As I have created 9 installments for the Final Fantasy series.)

I will continue work on the original "Terra Battle," with updates that add story and game-play to the world. I thank you for your continued support for "Terra Battle," "Terra Battle 2" and "Terra Wars."
