Hironobu Sakaguchi's Mistwalker Corporation opened today the pre-registrations for its upcoming game Terra Battle 2.

Like most pre-registration campaigns, it has a series of tiers rewarding players depending on how many pre-register. You can learn how to do so yourself here.

Two notable rewards are at 200,000 pre-registrations, which will grant players Samatha, a returning character from the original Terra Battle.

300,000 pre-registrations include the really juicy reward: if the goal is reached Kingdom Hearts III Director Tetsuya Nomura will team up with Sakaguchi-san once more, and design a Guardian for the game. Incidentally, Nomura-san did mention a couple of weeks ago that he was performing additional jobs for developers external to Square Enix, and apparently this is one.

Guardians are an interesting concept, as they are familiars that accompany characters and can be equipped in battle. They can level up and are obtained via gacha, while characters themselves aren't involved in the usual gacha mechanics.

This is on purpose, because this way characters will be able to join and leave the party dynamically depending on the progress of the story, instead of being the main focus on the gacha system, which would limit their narrative elasticity.

On top of the news about Nomura-san and pre-registrations, today we also get a new trailer, and plenty of lovely illustrations showing characters and their evolution, including Samatha herself. A gameplay trailer also shows collaborative attacks.

You can check out the trailer and images below, and if you want to see more, you can also enjoy some direct feed gameplay, on top of the first trailerthe first character trailer, and the second one.

You can also read our coverage coming from Anime Expo, starting from an interview with Hironobu Sakaguchi himself. During a separate press panel, Sakaguchi-san also commented  on the Nintendo Switch, on the (unlikely) possibility of his return to the Final Fantasy franchise, and shared more details on the console version of Terra Battle.

Terra Battle 2 will release for PC, iOS and Android in North America and Japan this summer.
