IGN’s just posted an announcement trailer for Techland’s Dead Island, a first-person survival horror RPG shooter that was announced ages ago, and it is all I can think about right now. Shown at E3 in 2007, Dead Island didn’t make very many waves and slowly descended into oblivion, but this fantastic trailer shows that the game is still in active development, and that we really should be paying more attention.
There aren’t very many movie trailers, let alone video game trailers, that are as breathtakingly beautiful as this trailer. Beyond the unbelievable graphics, it’s restrained, classy, and most importantly, injects a bit of humanity and emotion into the zombie-bashing genre, a la The Walking Dead.
The worst part of this is that even if the game itself is a top-tier AAA classic, it will perhaps still never live up to the massive hype this trailer is already generating. Dead Island is hopefully set to come out sometime this year on the PC, PS3, and 360.
