Independent developer Second Step Studios has announced the launch of a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter for its upcoming musically-driven brawler The Devil's Eight.

The Devil's Eight takes players on a journey into hell's eight circles to defeat the realm's set of overseers through fast-paced 2D action set in 3D environments. Each stage and boss has been crafted with a unique style that is meant to match that particular circle's themes.

Featuring dashes, fast falls, and specials, the developer says that the gameplay mechanics are reminiscent of the Super Smash Bros. franchise, but with a key element that sets it far apart. Music takes a prominent role in The Devil's Eight. The music visualizer in the background of its scenes acts as the overseer's health bar. To top it off, several notable musicians will be contributing to the soundtrack, including Grammy nominated composer Justin Lassen (Underworld series).

The Devil's Eight is currently on Kickstarter looking to raise $32,000 to continue development and to pay for music expenses. As of writing, the game has raised $4,655.

The Devil's Eight is projected to release for PC, Mac, Linux, and PlayStation 4. For more information on the game, you can visit the Kickstarter page or its official website. Provided below is a Kickstarter video about the game.
