The first Beta Weekend Event for the upcoming Guild Wars 2 expansion, Heart of Thorns, will take place on Friday, August 7 at 12:00PM PDT until Monday, August 10 at 12:00PM PDT.
Arena Net stated that these are “real beta tests,” and that gamers would, “have the real opportunity to help shape the expansion with your feedback.” Not all of the expansion will be available as they do not want to spoil the sense of discovery that comes with new areas. Only the first story chapter and parts of the first map, about 25%, will be playable.
Access to the beta will be available to those who have pre-purchased the expansion. A new button will appear allowing them to create a level-80 beta character of any race during the weekend. The new profession, the revenant, will be available, including five full trait lines and all four core legends. Professions will also grow into new elite specializations such as the reaper or tempest.
You’re beta character won’t be just restricted to the expansion area, you can also bring it into the PvE, PvP, or WvW areas. The Stronghold PvP mode will be playable and any progress made in the first beta weekend will carry over into the second. However Arena Net has not stated if any progress made in the beta weekends will carry over in any way to the final version.
