SNK announced today on PlayStation Blog that they have released a free Athena Asamiya DLC costume for The King of Fighters XIV today. Two new themes are also being released.

Athena’s costume is based off her iconic The King of Fighters ’98 look. This costume is free from today until January 22 for all owners of the game. The new Santa Girls theme keeps up with the holiday season, while the Athena All Stars theme showcases all of her different costumes over the years.

The developers also updated us on the 1.10 patch for the game, which will bring drastic graphical improvements to the game, along with increasing the total number of color variations for each character from four to six. The 1.10 update will release on January 11, and SNK plans to release a Special Demo Ver. 2 closer to release so players can see the new updates in action before release.

DualShockers gave The King of Fighters XIV a 9.5, saying “If you own a PS4 and are into fighting games, or are just starting in the competitive scene, The King of Fighters XIV is perfect for you. It is simplistic and easy to use on the surface, but still has huge combos and advanced mechanics for players to learn and master if they put time into the game.”
