As one of the most highly-anticipated PS4 exclusives coming this year, The Last Guardian has been met with an extensive period of development since it was first unveiled in 2009, with the title receiving a last minute delay to the end of the year.

In an update on the PlayStation Blog, SIE president Shuhei Yoshida announced that The Last Guardian has been delayed to December 2016 from its originally-planned worldwide release on October 25th, 2016. In North America, Australia, and Japan the title will launch on December 6th, while in Europe the title will come one day later on December 7th.

Yoshida explained that the development team behind the game “is fast approaching major milestones in production and has made the tough decision to delay the release of The Last Guardian a few weeks,” with Yoshida further adding in the update:

“Fumito Ueda, gen DESIGN and JAPAN Studio have a wonderful vision for The Last Guardian’s touching, emotional journey of friendship and trust, and we want to deliver the most polished experience possible for our fans who have supported us for so long. A delay is a difficult decision, particularly with this game, but we have encountered more bugs than anticipated while in the final stages of development. To ensure that The Last Guardian delivers on the experience that the game’s creators have envisioned, we need to take the extra time to work on those issues.

Our development continues to push itself to the fullest and we look forward to revealing new content toward launch.”

The Last Guardian will release for PS4 on December 6th, 2016 in North America, Australia, and Japan, followed by a European launch on December 7th, 2016.
