Sony announced today that the sales for The Last of Us have exceeded 3.4 million units globally (this number includes both Blu-Ray discs and the downloaded version) as of July 3rd. This is a  little under three weeks after the release of The Last of Us, which received a perfect score from our own Chad Awkerman, has become the fastest selling PS3 game of 2013.

Sony's Worldwide Studios President Shuhei Yoshida praised Naughty Dog, the developer of The Last of Us, for the sales numbers.

The teams at Naughty Dog are true visionaries and their storytelling capabilities are second to none, this title is an undisputed demonstration of that. SCE continues to be committed to delivering unique gameplay experiences that redefine the interactive entertainment industry and The Last of Us is a perfect example.

For those who have been hiding under a rock for the last year, The Last of Us follows Joel and Ellie as they travel across the former United States while trying to survive humans infected by the Cordyceps fungus. In my personal opinion it is the game to beat for Game of the Year.
