Creative Director of Batman: Arkham Origins, Eric Holmes, has confirmed that collectible objects will exist in the game. However, he added that they will be in a different form than what we saw in 2009's Arkham Asylum and 2011's Arkham City. Furthermore, he did not confirm if the Riddler would be involved in these collectibles in the way he was in the previous two aforementioned games.

In Arkham Asylum, the Riddler was nothing more than an auditory presence who was dealt with (off-screen) only when Batman collected all the game's secret items. In Arkham City, the Riddler took on a role akin to that of Jigsaw from the Saw film franchise, entrapping hostages in highly lethal situations. Again, it was after the completion of these challenges along with the collection of every single secret item in the game that the Riddler was defeated.

Due to Arkham Origins taking place in only the second year of the Batman continuity, it is possible that the Riddler may have an enhanced role due to Batman's inexperience, or none at all.

Batman: Arkham Origins is being developed by Warner Bros. Montreal and will be published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii U, and PC on October 25th, 2013. A Vita/3DS version of the game, Batman: Arkham Origins – Blackgate, is also in development by Armature Studio and will be released on the same day.
