Today, Italy-based developer LKA and publisher Wired Productions announced that first-person psychological adventure game The Town of Light is set to release on June 6, 2017 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC both digitally and at retail, with the latter being handled by THQ Nordic.

As you may know, The Town of Light first emerged onto the scene early last year, when it released on the PC. That being said -- I know what you're thinking -- why is it releasing on PC again? Well that's because this release is an enhanced edition of the original game, and will offer up new puzzles, new story-supporting content, reworked voiceover dialogue, additional interactive elements, and a "huge "graphical and UI overhaul "that aims to deliver a more polished and immersive experience for its console debut and enhanced PC release." The game will notably also support PS4 Pro.

Inspired by true events, The Town of Light is set in Tuscany, Italy at the Volterra Psychiatric Asylum, an asylum that has been closed since 1978 because its practices were deemed “too cruel.” Such cruelties reported included electroshock therapy on patients, as well as people being tied up to their beds in straightjackets. That being said, here’s an overview of the game from LKA:

12 March 1938. Renée, 16 years old, is ripped out of her world, locked up and deprived of everything. Her only fault was that she didn’t know what her place in the world was. “A danger to herself and others and a cause of public scandal” wrote the police headquarters. The only horror you will find in this game is the truth: a blow to the solar plexus, much more intense than any supernatural presence

The Town of Light is a psychological adventure told in the first person. The story is set in Italy in the first half of the 20th Century in a place which really existed and has been meticulously reconstructed. Exploring and interacting with the environment you will relive the history of the main character through her confused viewpoint and on the basis of your choices, the story will develop in different ways.

The Town of Light will cost $19.99 USD.  If you already won the game on PC, then you will receive the enhanced version free of charge.

LKA also dropped a new live action trailer today to accompany the announcement: you can check it out below:
