The Witcher 3 Devs Working to Make Modding Tools Accessible; Want to Give as Much Freedom as Possible

The REDKit for The Witcher 2 allowed quite a few users to create some really great mods, but it wasn’t really as widely used as, for instance, Skyrim‘s modding tools. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will have its own tools, and Visual Effects Artist Jos√© Teixeira¬†explained what CD Projekt RED is doing with it in an interview on WitcherBR.com.

We’re working on it. During the development of the game we had to create many new things, many tools, and at this moment, this software, the REDKit, our REDEngine, is good but it’s complicated to use.

It’s complicated because many new things were made very fast and it’s hard to use. Now we’re working to make it easier for the public, and then we will release it. We want to give as much freedom as possible so that you can do everything you want.

Personally, I definitely hope that the new REDKit will pave the way to a much wider adoption by the modding community compared to its predecessor. Modding is one of the best elements of PC gaming, and The Witcher 3, with it’s large and beautiful open world, seems to be the perfect environment to create awesome adventures.
