This Day in Gaming History: Metal Gear Solid

on October 21, 2014 11:26 AM

Welcome to the latest installment of This Day in Gaming History! In this segment, we take a nostalgic look back at some of our favorite (or not so favorite) gaming titles and say, Happy Birthday! We also want to know what your best and sometimes worst memories of the title were.

On this day, 16 years ago, Konami released the legendary Metal Gear Solid for Playstation.  It was the sequel to the 2D, Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake.  The game took on the ending ‘Solid’ because it introduced us to some “solid” 3D graphics, as well as one of the more notable video game characters, Solid Snake.  Metal Gear Solid paved the way for all future stealth-based titles and cemented itself as one of the most important games of all time. Thanks Hideo!

What one thing did you absolutely love about Metal Gear Solid? What one thing did you dislike about Metal Gear Solid?
